We had a great opportunity to visit Two Point Studio and learn a bit about their journey from the founding of the studios to their first game, Two Point Hospital, to the newest release, Two Point Museum. We got to listen to presentations by professionals from the industry and how they got into making games along with some additional portfolio advice. This was a brilliant experience to visit and learn how a professional studio functions and what it looks like. We also learnt of the work experience positions that Two Point Studio offers that we might be able to apply for after we graduate.
Portfolio Tips:
Another fantastic opportunity we were given was because of the timing of the release of Two Point Studio and our visit day; they had time to spend and play our games. Below are the feedback and bugs we found from this playtest:
Bugs
A lot of the feedback we got seems to reveal some bugs that appear only when a build of the game is made. The UI not displaying correctly is something that we need to test out more across different devices.
The mouse problem is a recent issue that only appeared when we implemented a custom cursor, which seems to indicate a problem with the sprite we used, which we will need to fix.
Concerns
It seems like the behaviour of clicking on the tabs first is an interesting observation which probably stems from the fact that people focus on big and bright colours. Interestingly, people have a hard time learning how to turn the pages and seem to ignore the bottom half of the sketchbook after looking at the tabs, which means they could not find the arrow to turn the page even though it is in red. To fix this we could either include a tutorial, add an effect or change the colour of the arrow to make it stand out.
