We have already drawn some sketches for our game logo whilst deciding on a game title name during Semester One. Refinement on the design elements and visual aspects will be done in this section, as we will start by cutting down the drafts down to 4 potential results.

Janle chose…

Yao chose…

Group 203.svg

Reason: Has a bit of all the motifs that we wanted along with incorporating them into a clean style, and it has a very adaptable design that we might take forward

Group 201.svg

Reason: The almost playful arrangement of the letters and bold style translates across to a vibrant and cozy vibe that could be used

Group 204.svg

Reason: Mainly reuse the leaf on vines type of approach extended from the letters or swirly cursive text font on the game title

Group 202.svg

Reason: Re-iterate the idea of the shining star at the top and the game title either sliced or fading effect near the centre

We selected a total of 4 sketches to base the final design on, which will take motif features from each that’s favoured to create the most desirable outcome. For the making process, aside from us directly recreating the logo with the adjusted draft version on Illustrator. We additionally thought to experiment with a range of free commercial fonts provided that would match our game aesthetics to alter the font design from.

Text Font

To help with the creation of the title logo, a range of fonts are sampled to see what kind of style would fit best to our chosen drawn drafts above. Yao has aimed to search for a mix of handwritten and bold fonts. These can be used as the base when iterating these text in isolated paths on Adobe Illustrator, so we can create our own specialised font for the game logo.

The Logo

</aside>

For this task, Yao is in charge of making the vector design. We wanted to select fonts that include traits of bold text and have a bit of swirls on the letters. ‘Fink Heavy’ captures the essence motif we initial desired on our list that encapsulates characteristics suitable to the chosen design drafts above. As seen from the sketch, there are some letters from the font that doesn’t match the style we’re looking for. So I will be editing and reshaping them individually to match the reference image.

Vector Designs Two of the designs are digitalised as vector designs to visualise the appearance of the drawn sketches, which are slightly blurry to differentiate the shapes.

Iterations The logo will be displayed in a solid white colour to be presented clean on the title screen and potentially be partially decorated with smaller elements on other function buttons. Other than the leaf and flower pattern originally drawn from the sketch, I also incorporated other decorations like the shining stars and fading title idea from previous reusable suggestions. To keep a consistent theme across the game after creating the game icons beforehand, I played with the opacity settings to have some objects applied with gradient to provide variation effects.

Our favourite design that has been decided to take forward is highlighted in the box. We’ve played with utilising the gradient tool and experimented on giving them a nice backdrop highlight as a background. From these minor adjustments, the logo may go through more subtle iterations in the future, but these changes will be developed from the core base of this design.
