Along with the main game itself in the games show, we also can have a banner poster placed beside the game cabinet to act as advertisements. For the banner design, as we wanted to showcase the possible creature species players can find in the adventure, Yao will be responsible in the making as she holds all the creature model assets. Through some simple discussion on ideas, I’ve drawn out a rough sketch of the composition that would be used for the design.

First Idea:

Creature’s would be poking out from all the sides of the banner canvas…

Second Idea:

The 3 revealed creatures will be stacking on top of one another from biggest to smallest…

We decided to experiment with the first design by its idea of giving appearance to all the creatures that will be included in the later playable demo. After having the brief sketch made, now we can move on to Blender to put these elements all together…

I used Blender to set the camera resolution and posed all the creatures accordingly to my reference sketch. I then used Photoshop to complete the adjustments. The first step is to adjust the colour saturations of the creatures. As my image export from the Blender scene was rather dark, I turned up the contrast in their colour and added slight glowing effects to the tail of the rabbits.

Comparing to the sketch, I didn’t add the pixie and fish trails that were drawn and labelled. This is due to when testing out either to use plain solid coloured or environment based backgrounds. I felt the environment one would fit better. This decision made me realise that overall visual already packs up with a lot of elements, so I felt they’re not necessary.

Panel Image

I found we also need a panel background image to be on https://wsagames.com/, which I adjusted the banner composition and moved the creatures along to fit in this smaller canvas.

From the results of both posters, I’m happy that it turned out much like how I imagined it on my reference sketch. The posing for the waving creatures were fun to try out, trying to deliver the atmosphere feel through their body language. Mainly, cute to look at as their core appeal…
